LET’S TALK AFRICA:
Nigeria-who will bell the cat? ~1~
Though ranking 2nd in the ‘most religious country in the world’ chart, there is an unarguable decline in the level of moral in the nation popularly referred to as the ‘Giant of Africa’ spanning from the late 20th century till date. Well! I’m not so surprised because she also ranks 2nd on the chart list for ‘the most corrupt country in the world’ *guess I don’t know what statistic to actually go along with here* diligently cultivating and grooming the twin evil of bribery and corruption, admission racketeering, embezzlement of public funds, prostitution, armed robbery and other social vices which had and will still dutifully lend a helping hand to the significant moral decadence in the society. No doubt, there has been a brain-drain *a situation where people in the labour force travel abroad seeking for better working conditions* and the economic structure is deteriorating no matter how hard the few responsible good leaders and citizens as well try to restructure the economy through many conceived means which have worked well in developed economies *these developed nations such as the UK, USA, Canada, et al. are not also free from these but it is more pronounced in the developing nations*.
It is a noticeable fact that these social evils have eaten deep into the fabrics of the nation. On a daily basis, huge amount of money from the national treasure are being carted away and deposited into private accounts in foreign countries thereby decreasing their GDP; a little ‘kola’ must be paid to acquire goods, services, admission into schools, etc; young men and women who are needed for the effective rebranding of the nation *I would rather prefer the word ‘rebuilding’ because I don’t think a house can stand without a sure foundation* go about in masquerade-like attires with ‘metal poles’ and ‘killer capsules’ in broad daylight and in the still dark night snatching valuables, properties and hard-earned money from helpless citizens who ought to be protected by the so-called police force whose usual slogan “The police is your friend” undermines their mode of operation *they aren’t even protected themselves (…lol…)*; young ladies exchange their priceless epitome of motherhood for money.
The causes of all these social evils are not oblivious to every Tom, Dick and Harry in the Nigerian society. The causes among others are:
The greed and lust for more wealth- Leaders and citizens *they aren’t spared as well* are not satisfied with the wealth they have acquired already. They desire for more because economists have rightfully observed that “human wants cannot be satisfied”;
The attendant unemployment ratio in the country is alarming as a result of the inadequate provision of job opportunities by the government to graduates who fall within the labour force;
Lack of proper upbringing by the parents, guardians, siblings and others who are in charge of the children’s welfare;
Lack of responsibility on the part of the government leading to an abandon of its necessary duties and obligations to the citizens
High cost of living occasioned oftentimes by inflation ;
Low standard of living among the citizenry as a result of reduction in real wage rate *the purchasing power in the hands of the public*.
Thanks for reading!!!

N.B: The citizens of the afore-mentioned countries should bear with me.
I’m not trying to criticize, just trying to express my views *still yet, you’re all free to cast your criticisms and aspersions on me*…

Royalmark I have seen those statistics before. The sad part is, every person are combed now with the same razor.
A Nigerian girl said to me the other day, she gets so dishearted when people treat her with caution when they hear her nationality. She can only hang her head in shame, because she knows they have a valid reason.
I nearly cried for her..I know her and she is so sweet, honest and pure. Likewise there are plenty others just like her, suffering the consequences of a few bad men.
I have no advice, and stand helpless in the face of this dragon who wants to swallow the whole world - materialism. I can only pray for miracles....
